Privacy Notice
Last updated: May 18, 2026
This notice describes how honors.avemaria.edu, the website of the Honors College at Ave Maria University, collects and uses information about visitors. It is specific to this site and supplements the broader privacy practices of Ave Maria University.
What we collect
- Pages visited, links clicked, mouse movements, scroll depth, and approximate time on each page
- Device, operating system, browser, language preference, and referring URL
- Approximate geographic region derived from your IP address
- Anonymized session recordings and heatmaps produced by Microsoft Clarity. Per Microsoft's documentation, Clarity masks the content of all form input boxes in every recording mode, and this masking cannot be disabled. Other visible text content on the page may be captured in recordings depending on Clarity's masking configuration.
Why we collect it
We use this information to understand how prospective students, families, and faculty interact with the site so we can improve content, navigation, and the application experience. We do not sell this data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Who we share it with
We share limited analytics data with the following third party, who acts as our service provider:
- Microsoft Corporation — operates Microsoft Clarity, our session-replay and heatmap analytics provider. Microsoft processes data on our behalf in accordance with its own privacy practices. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Per Microsoft's documentation, Clarity retains session recordings for approximately thirty (30) days from the time of recording; a sample of recordings, along with heatmaps and aggregated analytics data, may be retained by Microsoft for up to thirteen (13) months.
When Microsoft Clarity is loaded on this site, Microsoft sets additional
third-party cookies in your browser (including the MUID cookie). Per
Microsoft's own documentation, these cookies are used by Microsoft "for
advertising, site analytics, and other operational purposes" across Microsoft
properties. Microsoft's use of these cookies is governed by the Microsoft
Privacy Statement, not by this notice. You can prevent Microsoft Clarity (and
these cookies) from loading on this site by declining analytics consent through
the Cookie Preferences link in the site footer.
The Honors College itself does not sell user information and does not share user information with marketing, advertising, or data-broker third parties other than as described above in relation to Microsoft Clarity.
Your choices
- United States visitors: analytics is enabled by default. You may opt out at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in the site footer.
- European Union, United Kingdom, and other non-US visitors: analytics is disabled until you grant consent through the banner shown on your first visit. You may change your choice at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in the site footer.
- Your choice is stored in your browser for twelve (12) months, after which we will ask again.
Your rights
California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. The Honors College does not sell user information. Loading Microsoft Clarity on this site causes Microsoft to set third-party cookies that Microsoft may use for advertising on Microsoft properties; California residents who wish to opt out of this may do so by declining analytics consent through the Cookie Preferences link in the site footer.
European Union and United Kingdom residents have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR, including the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection.
To exercise any of these rights, please email privacy.officer@avemaria.edu.
